Here is another one. Wait, darn it. This will be posted in reverse order on my site, but it will be chronologically above the previous entry. Never mind.

I based this one on another park sketch that I did of a dog. I again used a pallete knife and big aggressive gestures which is a big switch from my usual small-brush detail oriented work. The dog is in a forest with a mirror. I wasn't sure why, but as I didn't worry about it as I worked. A narrative was formed in my mind, but why go into it? What do you think?

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://briantjones.com/home/2012/1/30/i-hated-this-one-i-thought-it-was-a-turd-and.html"><rss:title>-</rss:title><rss:link>http://briantjones.com/home/2012/1/30/i-hated-this-one-i-thought-it-was-a-turd-and.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject></dc:subject>

I hated this one. I thought it was a turd and it embarrassed me to share it with others. The brothers really liked it though . . .

Who knows? Maybe letting go and getting awkward isn't such a bad thing. What a strange lesson to learn.

Late last year I took an Experimental Illustration course at Art Center with the (The?) Clayton Brothers. The goal of the class for me was to break apart my illustration style and habits and build up something new and different. It was harder than I thought to stop being all up in my own business and follow a non-business model. Here is a piece based on a fast sharpie sketch that I made in the park. I used a pallete knife and a lot of big aggressive gestures to make this. It's about 2.5 by 3.5 feet.

I had fun.

Almost forgot - my interpretation of the KING OF PENTACLES from The Hive Tarot Show.

I attempted to be true to the symbology of the card while still adding plenty of my own goofery. Even the goofery is rife with meaning and significance! This is one deep card.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://briantjones.com/home/2011/1/7/tarot-show-at-the-hive-gallery.html"><rss:title>TAROT SHOW AT THE HIVE GALLERY</rss:title><rss:link>http://briantjones.com/home/2011/1/7/tarot-show-at-the-hive-gallery.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject></dc:subject>

I will be showing in the upcoming Tarot card show at The Hive Gallery in downtown Los Angeles. A whole bunch of artists were chosen to come up with their take on different Tarot cards from the Waite Rider Tarot Deck. My card? The King of Pentacles (original card shown above)! To see my awesome interpretation just come on down to the show.
